Palmen Collection Auction: Impressive Proceeds Revealed!
The highly-anticipated auction of the Palmen Collection has come to an end, and the final proceeds have been unveiled.
While many showcase their Lamborghini Urus or Audi RS6 on Instagram, true connoisseurs with collections of classic Aston Martins prefer to keep a lower profile. Perhaps that's the distinction between old and new money.
The Palmen Collection, curated by Mr. Ad Palmen, was no exception to this trend of modesty. Although he had every reason to flaunt his assortment, circumstances necessitated the sale of these cherished cars. Classic Car Auctions took charge of the auction, featuring all 230 vehicles from the Palms Collection. The response was overwhelming, especially from international enthusiasts.
Among the treasures, the most affordable car was a 1998 Opel Vectra B, which found new owners after being bid upon three times, eventually selling for a mere 225 euros. The purpose of this car within the collection remains a mystery, perhaps serving as a mere means of transportation between warehouses. On the other end of the spectrum, the most coveted vehicle was the Lancia Aurelia B24 Spider, fetching an astonishing price of 540,000 euros. Noteworthy mentions include the 1953 Mercedes-Benz 300S Cabrio W188, which sold for 275,000 euros, and the 1963 Maserati 3500 GTI Sebring, changing hands for 119,000 euros.
The auction also witnessed the success of the 1964 Lancia Flaminia Sport Zagato, which commanded a hefty sum of 195,000 euros. In short, the Palmen Collection comprised a remarkable array of rare automobiles that one may never encounter again. From the Mazda RX-7 Convertible to the Saab Sonett III, Volvo 66, Chevrolet Corvair, and Panhard 24CT, each vehicle added its own distinctive charm.
In total, the Palmen Collection generated an impressive sum exceeding 10 million euros. The cars garnered immense interest, so much so that the auction website experienced a crash. Consequently, the auction had to be extended to allow everyone an opportunity to place their bids. Bidders engaged in fierce competition, driving prices thousands of euros above the minimum, all in pursuit of their desired vehicles.
Despite some cars showing signs of age, according to Nico Aaldering, they were generally in good and well-maintained condition, at least those kept indoors. The vehicles parked outside were likely Mr. Palmen's personal cars and not part of the official collection.
