Unleash the Thrills: Embracing the Dark Side of Motorcycle Travel

Whether you're going across town or across the country, riding a motorcycle is one of the most enjoyable ways to get things done. It brings an unparalleled joy to your face that other modes of transportation simply can't match.

But let's talk about the other side of motorcycle travel—the one that often goes unnoticed. It's not what you might expect, so let me share my thoughts.

Firstly, let's address the misconceptions. Some argue that riding a motorcycle is inherently dangerous, but we have to remember that we only live once. Non-riders may readily offer their opinions, regardless of whether you're a frequent moto traveller or not. I'm sure you've encountered this before.

Choosing where to travel is a personal decision. It's your responsibility to conduct thorough research before embarking on a journey to a new place. Is it worth the potential risks? Only you can decide because it's your life and your trip.

As for concerns about your partner leaving you, let's be real—motorcycle travel isn't the cause of relationship issues. Incompatibility can arise in any lifestyle. It's up to you and your partner to have open conversations and figure things out together. Having a partner who rides and understands can be a significant advantage, I won't deny that.

So, if those aren't the dark sides of motorcycle travel, what are they? In my view, two interrelated problems come into play. The more you explore the world on your motorcycle, the stronger the desire becomes to keep going. The world is a captivating place, filled with wonders and possibilities that can only be fully experienced by immersing yourself in it. Videos, books, and photos can teach you something, but true understanding comes from firsthand experiences that take your mind and heart to unexplored realms.

However, this wanderlust can make your everyday life feel mundane and unfulfilling. For most of us, travelling is not a full-time occupation. We return to our jobs, and our routines, and only truly feel alive when we embark on extraordinary journeys, like riding our bikes.

But here's where things can get dangerous—comparing yourself, your bike, your gear, and your travels to others on the internet. In the digital age, there's an abundance of motorcycle travel content at your fingertips. While it's valuable to gather information for informed decisions about gear, bikes, or travel, constantly comparing yourself to others on the road can lead to unhappiness.

Remember, the phrase "ride your ride" extends beyond the literal pace on your bike. It applies to every aspect of your journey. Wear the helmet that suits you best, whether it's modular or an open-face ADV model. Choose the gear that matches your preferences, be it a fancy adventure touring suit or a simple rain poncho. Embrace your individuality and don't let anyone dictate what's right for you.

Ultimately, your travels—whether on a motorcycle or not—are about you, your preferences, and how you want to live your life. Learn from the online resources available, but don't let them dictate your path. It's your decision whether to share your adventures through social media, videos, or written content. Don't let anyone pressure you. Just embrace the freedom to ride wherever your heart desires.
